It’s election day: statement from YWCA USA CEO, Margaret Mitchell

Today, Election Day, November 8, 2022, voters across the nation will be deciding more than 7,000 local, state, and federal electoral contests. YWCA is committed to registering, empowering, and educating voters and potential voters about civic engagement and the issues and concerns that matter most to women. Ahead of the outcomes of these Midterm results, YWCA USA Margaret Mitchell, issued the following statement:“It’s Election Day! Today, voters –  with women, particularly women of color, leading the way – will decide the outcomes of more than 7,000 local, state, and federal seats across the nation. Make no mistake, these Midterm contests will set the tone for the nation for years to come.Some of the most critical policy fights — access to abortion and contraception, ending gender-based violence, access to affordable child care, and so much more — will continue to play out in Congress as well as state legislatures and governors’ offices around the country.The vote you cast today matters more than ever. For the first time in generations, young women and people who can become pregnant have fewer rights than their elders. And far too many are still suffering the economic and health consequences of a devastating pandemic. The outcome of this election will impact these and many other individuals — it’s imperative we make our voices heard.If you haven’t already, make sure you get to the polls today. And don’t let anyone take your voice.Here is some important information to make sure you know your rights.
