Our Work Continues
YWCA USA CEO Margaret Mitchell released the following statement in response to the 2024 presidential election:
“Today, YWCA recommits to the work of our mission for peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people. We will continue to advocate for and alongside women, people of color, immigrants, the LGBTQ+ community, our disabled sisters, and all marginalized people. Together, we will create change in our communities, our country, and make good on the promise of our democracy.
As we reflect on the outcomes of this election, I want to name the significance of Vice President Kamala Harris’s candidacy and the impact it has had on so many across the nation. Her journey has and will continue to open doors for all of us – especially our daughters, who have now witnessed the audacity of hope -- a Black South Asian woman as the nominee for a major party, running for our country’s highest office.
Hope remains a powerful, RADICAL act. There is nothing that can take or shake our united resolve to create a world where all women and girls can thrive. We will continue to serve and to build – just as we have for 165 years. This is what we have been called to do.”
