YWCA USA Statement on the Impeachment of President Donald Trump

“In respose to the violent insurrection incited by President Donald J. Trump at our nation’s Capitol just one week ago, a bipartisan majority of the U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday to impeach him. This historic vote is the only appropriate response to the racially-motivated violence that our entire country witnessed in real-time. As the true level of threat to Members of Congress, their staff, and the Vice President has begun to crystalize, so too has the very real threat to the foundations of our democracy. The president’s role in inciting the insurrectionists to silence voters, halt Congressional certification of Electoral College votes, and attack the peaceful transfer of power all warrant his impeachment.History will forever record the choices that are made in this moment. YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, dignity, and freedom for all demands prompt action by the U.S. Senate. Regardless of the limited time that remains in President Trump’s tenure, the Senate must return to work immediately, proceed with an impeachment trial, and do what our Constitution and democracy demand: hold President Trump accountable for his actions.President Trump’s impeachment is the only path to truly healing our nation as we move forward together, committed to the work of justice, to ensure that women, girls, and people of color can live in a world free of racism and sexism and a world that promotes peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.”
